David Moyes: 'Wayne Rooney can become a Manchester United legend'

David Moyes believes that Wayne Rooney can become a "legend" at Manchester United as he nears 500 club appearances.

Manchester United manager David Moyes believes that striker Wayne Rooney can become a "legend" at Old Trafford as he nears his 500th club appearance.

The 28-year-old, who is rumoured to have recently rejected talks with United over a new deal, will reach the milestone if he plays against Aston Villa in the Midlands on Sunday.

The England international is also closing in on Sir Bobby Charlton's goalscoring record of 249 as the ex-Everton player currently has 207 in his tally.

"There are big things ahead for Wayne," BBC Sport quotes Moyes as saying. "He can break Sir Bobby's goals record. There are some fantastic legends at this club - Wayne can be one."

Despite the possibility of breaking records for the North-West outfit, Rooney is still being linked with a move away from Old Trafford following reports that Chelsea will launch a fresh bid for the striker in the summer.
