Friendly between Manchester United, Manchester City will not be rescheduled

Manchester United and Manchester City confirm that their pre-season friendly in Beijing will not be rescheduled after it was cancelled due to an unplayable pitch.

Manchester United and Manchester City have confirmed that their pre-season friendly in China will not be rescheduled for a later date after the match was cancelled due to an unplayable pitch.

The two rivals were due to go head to head in an International Champions Cup match at the Bird's Nest Stadium in Beijing today, but recent thunderstorms have left the surface unsafe for players.

Due to the hectic nature of both clubs' pre-season schedules, Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola's first face-off as United and City managers will have to wait.

A statement from both clubs read: "The decision was made collectively by tournament organisers, participating clubs, China Football Association, Beijing Football Association and the management of the National Stadium.

"Due to international travel schedules and planned sporting commitments, the match cancellation is definitive and the match will not be re-scheduled."

The next time that the two Manchester clubs meet will be in a Premier League match at Old Trafford on September 10.
