Harry Maguire to pay £90,000 to avoid three-year prison term?

Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire could reportedly avoid jail by paying a £90,000 fee if he is convicted of charges in Greece, although he denies all allegations against him.

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire could reportedly pay a fee in order to avoid a jail term if he is convicted for his part in an alleged brawl in Mykonos.

The 27-year-old was arrested with two other men on Thursday night following an altercation outside a bar on the Greek island and appeared in court today on charges which are said to include violence towards a police officer and bodily harm.

Unconfirmed reports have suggested that events unfolded after Maguire's sister Daisy was stabbed in the arm "with a sharp object".

Maguire has denied the allegations against him but according to The Mirror, should he eventually be convicted then he could avoid prison by taking advantage of a scheme that would require him to pay a daily fee instead.

The newspaper says that over the course of a three-year term that could amount to around £90,000 - around half of Maguire's weekly wage at United.

The club sent two lawyers out to Greece to represent their skipper on Friday night and in a statement said that it would be "inappropriate" to comment further at this stage.
