Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that he dropped Patrice Evra from Manchester United's Europa League match against Ajax due to the recent controversy surrounding the defender and Liverpool striker Luis Suarez.
It emerged earlier today that the Red Devils captain will play no part in the Premier League champions' first attempt in the European tournament after he was left out of United's travelling squad to Holland.
Ferguson has explained that the Frenchman will not feature after "an emotional week", which was centred around Liverpool striker Suarez's refusal to shake hands with the defender before United's 2-1 victory over the Reds last weekend.
Ryan Giggs and Dimitar Berbatov were also left in Manchester for United's trip to Amsterdam.
