Sir Alex Ferguson feels targeted by the Football Association

Sir Alex Ferguson insists that he is being treated unfairly by the Football Association over comments he made about match official Simon Beck last weekend.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has declared that he feels unfairly treated by the Football Association as it continues to look into comments he made about assistant referee Simon Beck.

Ferguson was asked to explain his criticism of Beck following last weekend's 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur and has sent a written reply to the FA to justify what he said.

The United boss, who was disappointed that the linesman did not award his side a penalty at White Hart Lane, believes that the FA is placing more emphasis on his words because of his high-profile position in the game.

He told reporters: "I just think it is more about me than what I've said. Whether I think it is unfair or not doesn't matter to them really at this point.

"That is what I have put in my letter exactly. But you know the FA. You never know. It is one of these things. We are high profile."

The FA confirmed last night that it has received Ferguson's response and now has until Tuesday evening to decide whether or not to charge the 71-year-old.
