Rio Ferdinand refuses to let his failure to earn an England call-up under Roy Hodgson get him down.

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has insisted that he has not allowed his failure to force his way into the plans of England manager Roy Hodgson to affect him.

Ferdinand, 34, has not featured in any of Hodgson's squads since he took charge of the Three Lions prior to last year's Euro 2012 tournament in Poland and Ukraine.

However, rather than allowing himself to get downbeat, Ferdinand has revealed that he is more than happy to be contesting for trophies with United.

"I'm not sitting there thinking about trying to get back into the England team," Ferdinand told MUTV. "I'm just playing football for Manchester United.

"That's what I love doing and that is what's at the forefront of my mind. Everything I'm doing is for playing for Manchester United and doing the best I can for United.

"If that, in time, ends up in me getting a call-up for England, then great and fantastic. If it doesn't, I won't really lose any sleep over it. I'm here fighting for titles and couldn't be any happier if I'm honest."

Ferdinand has made 81 appearances at senior international level.
