Angel Di Maria: 'We want to put Manchester United back on top'

Manchester United winger Angel Di Maria insists that the players want to restore the club back to its dominant position in domestic and European football.

Manchester United winger Angel Di Maria has insisted that the players are doing everything they can to restore the club back to its former glory.

Any faint hopes of United claiming the Premier League title faded further this evening as they were defeated by visitors Southampton, with summer signing Di Maria saying that the team will fight to get back to the top.

"There are still a lot of points for the taking. We must continue to work and fight. Sometimes it's better to be in the hunter's spot - there's more motivation," said the 26-year-old, according to Goal.com.

"Every year, the club gets bigger and changes its ambitions. We're doing everything to be at the top, which is our position.

"A team like Manchester United has to be in the Champions League. We're doing everything to put back the club in its place."

Louis van Gaal's men currently occupy fourth position in the English top flight on 37 points from 21 games.
