Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed that Will Keane is to undergo surgery on a groin injury.
The 23-year-old sustained the complaint shortly after he had come on as a second-half substitute during the FA Cup tie away at Shrewsbury Town last week.
Van Gaal made the revelation that an operation was required while discussing his attacking options with reporters yesterday afternoon.
"I have [Wayne] Rooney, I have [Anthony] Martial, I have [Marcus] Rashford, I had Will Keane but Keane is injured and will be operated on. When I have more players, I will rotate."
Keane, who was recently recalled from a loan stint at Preston North End, is out of contract at Old Trafford in the summer.
