Anthony Martial, Matteo Darmian, Chris Smalling in contention to face Watford

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal reveals that Anthony Martial, Matteo Darmian and Chris Smalling are all in contention to return from injury against Watford.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed that Anthony Martial, Matteo Darmian and Chris Smalling are all in contention to face Watford on Wednesday night.

Martial has missed the last two games after picking up a hamstring strain during the warm-up for his side's Europa League clash with FC Midtjylland last Thursday, although in his absence 18-year-old Marcus Rashford has scored four goals.

Darmian and Smalling, meanwhile, have both been sidelined since United's 2-1 defeat to Sunderland on February 12, with Van Gaal being forced into naming a makeshift back four in recent weeks.

All three could return to face the Hornets in midweek, however, as United go in search of back-to-back wins in the Premier League for the first time since November.

"Players are coming back. It is positive," Van Gaal told MUTV.

Victory for United could move them level on points with fourth-placed Manchester City should their local rivals lose against Liverpool at Anfield.
