Louis van Gaal: 'I am no clown'

Louis van Gaal insists that he will not be playing the role of a "clown" on a regular basis following a bizarre incident in a recent win over Arsenal.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has vowed to stop acting like a "clown" following his behaviour in Sunday's 3-2 win over Arsenal.

The Dutchman, 64, threw himself to the ground in front of fourth official Mike Dean at Old Trafford in order to highlight what he felt was a dive from Alexis Sanchez.

It proved an instant sensation on social media, but Van Gaal has insisted that such a bizarre incident is unlikely to happen again.

"It is not a part of my philosophy, because I don't think you can influence the game from that spot (the technical area)," he told reporters.

"I am not a clown, I am Louis van Gaal, I am a human being and a manager. And the players have to think on the pitch, not the manager."

The Red Devils, who sit fifth in the Premier League table, host Watford on Wednesday night as they look to move level with Manchester City in the fourth and final Champions League spot.
