How Manchester United could line up against Barcelona

Sports Mole looks at how Manchester United could line up for Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Barcelona.

Manchester United travel to Barcelona on Tuesday evening seeking another famous away result in the Champions League.

Six weeks on from knocking out Paris Saint-Germain with a 3-1 victory in the French capital, having lost the first leg 2-0, United need to pull off another comeback win.

Last Wednesday's first leg at Old Trafford finished 1-0 to Barcelona, with United failing to register a single shot on target.

Of the 70 previous occasions a side has won a Champions League knockout tie first leg away from home, just four have been eliminated, though one exception to the norm was United's triumph in Paris last month.

Ahead of their trip to Camp Nou, Sports Mole looks at how Man United could line up.

Possible MNU XI vs. BAR

Out: Luke Shaw (suspension)
Doubtful: Nemanja Matic (muscle strain), Eric Bailly (concussion), Antonio Valencia (calf), Matteo Darmian (knock), Alexis Sanchez (knee), Ander Herrera (unknown)

Shaw's own goal in the first leg is the difference between the sides at the midway point in the tie, and the left-back will play no part in Catalonia after incurring an automatic ban for picking up three yellow cards.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has the option of using Darmian in that position, but he has only played twice in 2019. Ashley Young produced a poor display in the first leg and may lose his place to Diogo Dalot, who has grown in confidence.

Speaking after the 2-1 win over West Ham United on Saturday, Solskjaer suggested that Scott McTominay and Marcus Rashford - two of five players rested from the Barca match - will be restored to the starting lineup on Tuesday.

The prolonged absence of Matic and Herrera means that Fred is likely to continue his run in the side, with Paul Pogba completing the midfield three.

Up top, a change of formation may be a possibility after a disappointing showing in the home leg, potentially opening the door for Anthony Martial to join Rashford and Romelu Lukaku in attack.
