Manchester United 'want Paul Pogba to become permanent captain'

Manchester United are ready to hand Paul Pogba the captain's armband on a permanent basis, according to a report.

Manchester United are reportedly ready to hand Paul Pogba the captain's armband on a permanent basis in a bid to convince the France international to remain at Old Trafford.

Antonio Valencia is United's first-team skipper, but the Ecuador international will leave on a free transfer this summer, meaning that a new captain will need to be appointed.

According to The Mirror, head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants Pogba to lead the team going forward, but the club still face a tough task convincing the 2018 World Cup winner to stay in England.

Indeed, Real Madrid and Barcelona continue to be linked with the 26-year-old, who has a contract at Old Trafford until the summer of 2021, with the option of a further year.

Solskjaer recently insisted that United would keep hold of the midfielder this summer, but it has since been reported that the relationship between the two individuals has deteriorated.

Pogba scored twice in United's 2-1 win over West Ham United in the Premier League on Saturday, meaning that the Frenchman has now struck 16 times in all competitions this term.
