Rony Lopes leaves Manchester City for Monaco

Rony Lopes leaves Manchester City and signs for Ligue 1 side Monaco.

AS Monaco have completed the signing of Portuguese Under-21 international midfielder Rony Lopes from Manchester City.

The 19-year-old has signed a five-year contract at the Stade Louis II.

"I have heard a lot about Monaco. It's a superb city, with a pleasant climate. I know the team too, as I have friends who play for AS Monaco," Lopes told the club's official website.

"I've already played alongside them for the national team. AS Monaco is an excellent club to develop at. This is a good challenge for me."

Lopes, who has five caps for Portugal Under-21s, joined Manchester City from Benfica in 2011, but made just five senior appearances in his four-year spell with the club.

He spent last season on loan at Lille, where he scored three goals in 27 appearances.
