Manchester City are confident that a deal to sign River Plate forward Julian Alvarez will be finalised before Monday's 11pm deadline, according to a report.
The Citizens are understood to have agreed a fee in the region of £17m to sign the 21-year-old, with Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade already confirming that his team have lost out to the Premier League leaders.
According to Sky Sports News, talks between City and River Plate are now at an advanced stage, but the final details still need to be sorted.
Both parties are confident that the deal will be completed before the deadline, which will see Alvarez sign a long-term contract until June 2027.
The Argentina international is expected to remain on loan with River Plate until the end of the current campaign in England, before joining up with Pep Guardiola's side in the summer for pre-season.
Alvarez enjoyed an exceptional 2021 campaign in South America, scoring 24 goals and registering 15 assists for River Plate in 46 appearances across all competitions.
