Team News: John Stones, Nolito start, Joe Hart dropped

John Stones and Nolito start for Manchester City against Sunderland while Joe Hart drops to the bench.

John Stones and Nolito have both been handed their Manchester City debuts in Pep Guardiola's first competitive game in charge of the Citizens.

Long-time number one stopper Joe Hart has dropped to the bench for the visit of Sunderland, with Willy Caballero taking his place between the sticks.

Sergio Aguero has been picked to lead the line as Guardiola opts for a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Nolito proving attacking support alongside Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling.

New summer signings Ilkay Gundogan and Leroy Sane fail to make the matchday squad, while there are spots on the bench for Pablo Zabaleta, Nicolas Otamendi and Jesus Navas.

For the visiting Black Cats, new manager David Moyes hands young defender Donald Love his debut just days after his arrival from Manchester United.

Fellow United exports Adnan Januzaj and Paddy McNair are named on the bench, while Jermain Defoe returns from injury to start ahead of Duncan Watmore and Fabio Borini.

Elsewhere, Lamine Kone makes the starting XI despite reports that he has handed in a transfer request.

Manchester City: Caballero; Sagna, Stones, Kolarov, Clichy; Fernandinho, Silva; Nolito, De Bruyne, Sterling; Aguero
Subs: Hart, Zabaleta, Fernando, Navas, Delph, Otamendi, Iheanacho

Sunderland: Mannone; Love, van Aanholt, Kaboul, Kone, O'Shea, Rodwell, Gooch; Watmore, Borini; Defoe
