Jack Rodwell explains his decision to leave Everton for Manchester City in the summer.

Jack Rodwell has claimed that he could not reject a move to Manchester City from Everton this summer.

The midfielder's transfer to the Etihad Stadium has been questioned but the 21-year-old believes that it would have been foolish not to leave Merseyside.

Rodwell said: "I'm young and English. I've not got a bad word to say about City. If they want you and sign you, then they have got intent for you.

"I was not guaranteed a starting place at Everton. I had a lot of injuries, Darron Gibson and Marouane Fellaini were in form, so it was a push for me to get in that side.

"But when the champions come knocking, it's hard to refuse."

Former City winger Adam Johnson recently urged young English players to think twice before joining Roberto Mancini's side.
