Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany has been ruled out for at least four weeks with a groin injury.
The Belgian international suffered the problem midway through the second half of City's 4-0 victory over Newcastle United on Monday evening.
It had initially been believed that the 27-year-old would return immediately after the international break.
However, City boss Manuel Pellegrini has revealed that he expects his skipper to miss at least four weeks, which could see him struggling to be match fit for the club's opening two fixtures in the Champions League.
