Pep Guardiola breaks a Premier League record previously set by Sir Alex Ferguson, after Manchester City beat Aston Villa 2-1 away from home on Wednesday night.

Pep Guardiola has broken a Premier League record previously set by former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, after Manchester City beat Aston Villa 2-1 away from home on Wednesday night.

First-half strikes from Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva put the Citizens in control, and despite Ollie Watkins pulling one back for the hosts shortly after half time, the visitors were able to hold on for all three points.

That result has seen Guardiola become only the fourth manager in Premier League history to reach 150 victories for a single club.

After just 204 top-flight matches, the Spaniard has surpassed Ferguson's record with the Red Devils, who earned his 150th win in his 247th game in charge.

In addition, Guardiola has now claimed a staggering 475 points in the Premier League with Man City, averaging 2.33 points per game.

Victory against Villa sees the Citizens remain in second place, just one point behind leaders Chelsea, and they will now be looking to claim their fifth successive Premier League win away against Watford on Saturday.
