Manchester City ease to comfortable win over Viktoria Plzen

Manchester City begin their Champions League campaign with a 3-0 victory over Viktoria Plzen.

Manchester City scored three goals in 10 second-half minutes to beat Viktoria Plzen 3-0 on Tuesday evening.

Both sides were eager to attack throughout the first half but it was the visitors who created the better chances early on.

Edin Dzeko found himself in space at the back post midway through the first half but his header was well kept out by Matus Kozacik.

City's forwards looked the most likely to break the deadlock and Sergio Aguero was inches away from an opening goal when he fired a low shot against the post from just outside the box.

Plzen looked comfortable in possession but they lacked the attacking edge to create a clear cut-chance in the first period.

Aguero's skill continued to worry the Plzen defence and he forced Kozacik to make a good save from a curled effort just before the break.

The visitors ended their frustration just after the break when Aguero took advantage of some sloppy defending to pick out Dzeko, who made up for his earlier miss by slotting the ball past Kozacik.

Dzeko could have doubled his tally a few moments later but he struck the ball wide with a sliced effort following some more unconvincing defending from the home side.

Yaya Toure scored his side's second in the 53rd minute by curling the ball past the helpless Kozacik from 25 yards out.

Plzen had no answer for City's improvement in the second half as Aguero added a third for his side by finding the bottom corner of the net from just inside the box to finish off a flowing passing move.

The visitors were able to relax following the third goal and they cruised towards three points without much threat from their opponents.

Aguero could have added a fourth late on but his powerful effort from a tight angle was well saved by Kozacik before another shot flew over the crossbar as City strolled to victory.
