Half-Time Report: Markus Rosenberg gives Malmo shock lead against Olympiacos

Malmo take a shock lead at home to Olympiacos thanks to a Markus Rosenberg goal.

Malmo are on course for a surprise win against Olympiacos after Markus Rosenberg gave the Swedish side the lead in their Champions League encounter.

The Greek champions, looking to build on their 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid on matchday one, started brightly and Pajtim Kasami forced an early stop from Danish keeper Robin Olsen before Kostas Mitroglou lashed a follow-up effort wide.

Alberto Botia then squandered a good chance for the visitors after Malmo failed to clear from a corner, but the defender's shot on the turn was only just wide of the target.

With the Swedish outfit struggling to gain a foothold in the game, Olympiacos midfielder Luka Milivojevic then tried his luck from distance only to see his strike drift off target.

The visitors continued to pile pressure on the Malmo backline and had their best chance of the opening quarter when Giannis Maniatis forced another save out of the Malmo keeper with a right-foot shot.

Olympiacos thought they had taken the lead when Kostas Mitroglou found the back of the net from Maniatis's pass, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

From the restart, Malmo broke out of defence and, after some comedic defending from Botia, Rosenberg capitalised to give the Swedish outfit a shock lead.
