Preview: Malawi vs. Cameroon - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's World Cup Qualifying - Africa clash between Malawi and Cameroon, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Aiming to record a third consecutive 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying victory, Cameroon visit the Orlando Stadium to face off against Malawi on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the home side are looking to snap a two-game losing streak and put some gloss on their qualifying campaign with their World Cup hopes over already.

Cameroon claimed a hard-fought 1-0 win over the Mambas of Mozambique on October 10 when the teams went toe to toe.

Michael Ngadeu's strike midway through the second half secured all three points for Toni Conceicao's men at the Stade Ibn Batouta.

The Indomitable Lions are second in Group D as things stand, a point behind Ivory Coast with two games left to play.

Lying in store next for them is the challenge of going up against an opposing side who have not won any of the previous five meetings, while also failing to score in four of those matches.

Saturday's visitors conclude with their qualifying campaign with a mouth-watering tie versus the current group leaders and securing all three points this weekend would put them within a victory of progressing into the next round.

Malawi fell to a 2-1 defeat versus the Elephants of Ivory Coast at the Stade de l'Amitie on October 11.

Meke Mwase's men fell behind to Nicolas Pepe's second-minute strike before drawing level thanks to Khuda Muyaba, only for Franck Kessie to decide the game from the penalty spot 25 minutes from time.

Having managed just three points from four outings, the Flames are third in the group at the moment but have now conceded the most goals of all four teams.

This defensive fragility is set to be tested against the team who have scored the joint-most goals, which should make for an exciting affair.

Team News

Gabadinho Mhango picked up a knock in his side's last outing versus Ivory Coast, and the Orlando Pirates forward has not featured since then.

Yamikani Chester came on for Mhango in the aforementioned game, and the 26-year-old is expected to get the nod right from the off this time around.

Vincent Aboubakar was on target in the reverse fixture, and the forward, who has scored more goals for Cameroon than any other active player, is one to keep an eye on.

Aboubakar's strike partner Karl Toko Ekambi has found the back of the net in five of his last six outings since the last international break, and the Lyon man will be looking to keep this fine run going.

Malawi possible starting lineup:
Munthali; Chembezi, Petro, Cholopi, Sanudi; Banda, Chirwa, Idana; Chester, Muyaba, Madinga

Cameroon possible starting lineup:
Mboka; Tolo, Ngadeu, Moukoudi; Ngamaleu, Anguissa, Hongla, Fai; Choupo-Moting, Ekambi, Aboubakar
