Liverpool will reportedly launch a £30m bid for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke in an attempt to keep contract rebel Raheem Sterling at the club this summer.
The Belgian international, who has 15 Premier League goals to his name this season, has been strongly linked with a switch to Anfield in recent times.
Villa boss Tim Sherwood revealed earlier this week that he is confident of keeping hold of his star forward, although The Times suggests that Liverpool will push ahead with a big-money swoop.
It is hoped that by landing Benteke, the Reds will not only add some much-needed firepower to their squad, but also tempt Sterling into staying put for at least another 12 months.
Reports elsewhere claim that Liverpool will only sell the wantaway winger should a bid of £60m be made.
