Liverpool 'planning something interesting in summer transfer window'

Liverpool do not plan to bring in any major signings this month as they plan "something interesting" for the summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Liverpool are reportedly holding off on any transfer business this month as they plan something "interesting" for the summer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.

With the January transfer window now open for business, the Premier League champions have been tipped to bring in a new centre-back given the long-term injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.

Liverpool have become the latest club to be linked with a winter deal for Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, but transfer expert Romano has hinted that a surprise bit of business could happen at Anfield in the summer.

Speaking on the Que Golazo podcast, Romano said: "Liverpool don't want to spend a lot of money in the January transfer window, because they are planning something interesting next summer."

Whether or not the Reds will move for a new defender remains unclear, but star attacker Mohamed Salah has reportedly emerged as Real Madrid's top target ahead of the 2021-22 season.

Jurgen Klopp's men remain at the top of the Premier League table on goal difference despite their injury woes, although they have failed to win any of their last three top-flight matches.
