Atletico Madrid expect to keep hold of Liverpool target Diego Costa

Atletico Madrid sporting director Jose Luis Caminero insists that Liverpool target Diego Costa will remain at the club for the upcoming season.

Atletico Madrid sporting director Jose Luis Caminero has insisted that the Spanish outfit will keep "idol" Diego Costa at the club for the 2013-14 season.

The 24-year-old has been linked with Liverpool, who are reported to have launched a bid in excess of £20m, allegedly triggering the forward's release clause.

"Diego Costa is a very important player for Atletico," Caminero told AS.

"We value him very highly and we are convinced that this year he is going to score a lot of goals with Atletico. He is an idol for the fans."

Costa, who has insisted that he is "happy" at the club, scored 20 goals in all competitions last season.
