Preview: Liverpool vs. Newcastle United

Andy Carroll looks likely to feature against his former club as Newcastle United travel to Liverpool on Friday evening.

Liverpool striker Andy Carroll is expected to feature against his former club Newcastle United on Friday evening.

The £35m signing looks certain to lead the Reds' line following news that Luis Suarez will be banned for one-match.

Another former Magpie, namely Craig Bellamy, could also be in line to start the match at Anfield, while captain Steven Gerrard will begin on the bench as he steps up his recovery from injury.

Visiting manager Alan Pardew will be looking for the club's leading goalscorer to continue his good goalscoring form before his departure to the African Cup of Nations.

Newcastle have only managed one victory at Anfield during the Premier League era, a result that came during the 1993/94 season.

Current form:

Liverpool: DLWWDD
Newcastle: DLLDLW

Possible lineups

Liverpool: Reina; Johnson, Agger, Skrtel, Enrique; Downing, Henderson, Adam, Kuyt; Bellamy, Carroll.

Newcastle: Krul; Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, R Taylor; Obertan, Cabaye, Tiote, Gutierrez; Ben Arfa; Ba.
