Jordan Henderson: 'Stoke City defeat was embarrassing'

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson acknowledges that his side's performance in their 6-1 defeat to Stoke City on the final day of the season was embarrassing.

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has admitted that he and his teammates were embarrassed by their defeat to Stoke City on the final day of the season.

The Reds were thrashed 6-1 by Mark Hughes's side at the Britannia Stadium as Mame Biram Diouf scored a brace and Jonathan Walters, Charlie Adam, Steven N'Zonzi and Peter Crouch all got on the scoresheet.

Henderson has acknowledged that the level of the display was nowhere near good enough, but believes that they can use the defeat as a vital lesson.

He told reporters: "The result at Stoke was not acceptable and we know as players it was embarrassing for us and the club.

"It was a very up and down season, very disappointing, but a lot of the younger lads will be able to learn from the experience."

Liverpool have parted company with assistant boss Colin Pascoe and first-team coach Mike Marsh as a result of their below-par season.
