Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish has insisted that he will not rush Steven Gerrard back from injury.
The midfielder has not featured for club nor country since March, after undergoing an operation on an injured groin.
The 31-year-old has resumed light training with Liverpool, but manager Dalglish has said that the player's return will not be rushed.
"Steven is progressing very well. We will pick and choose when it is best suited for Steven, whichever game suits him best," Dalglish said.
"We will analyse his recovery and how the progress is; we will do the same for Martin Kelly as we will do for Steven. We will just see what is right for Steven. There is no rush from us or from him because it has to be common sense. Everyone who is asked to play will be fit enough to play."
It is unlikely that Gerrard will feature in his side's clash with Tottenham this weekend, but reports this week suggested that the player could return for next week's Carling Cup meeting with Brighton.
