Kenny Dalglish speaks of his sympathy towards Cardiff City defender Anthony Gerrard.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has admitted that he feels sympathy towards Cardiff City's Anthony Gerrard.

The Bluebirds' defender missed the crucial penalty to hand Liverpool the Carling Cup trophy at Wembley Stadium earlier today.

Reflecting on his team's success, Dalglish said: "It was a long way to win but the name is on the trophy. Cardiff were always going to be difficult.

"They were never going to lie down and were a great credit. It's not a nice way to win a cup but we'll take it.

"It's sad that the boy missed it and you always feel for the person that misses in that situation."

Gerrard is the cousin of Liverpool captain Steven.
