Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Aston Villa

Sports Mole rounds up all of Liverpool's injury and suspension news ahead of Saturday's Premier League fixture against Aston Villa.

Liverpool are back in Premier League action on Saturday afternoon when club legend Steven Gerrard brings his Aston Villa side to Anfield.

While much of the attention will naturally be on the return of the club's greatest-ever midfielder, Liverpool head into the contest looking to keep pace with leaders Manchester City.

As a result of last weekend's last-gasp victory at Wolverhampton Wanderers, Jurgen Klopp's team sit one point adrift of the defending champions.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up all of Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the meeting with the resurgent West Midlands outfit.

Diogo Jota

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Knock
Possible return date: December 11 (vs. Villa)

Klopp revealed on Friday that Jota is yet to return to training after picking up a knock against Wolves last week. While the Portuguese has not been ruled out by his manager, he is unlikely to make an appearance.

Nat Phillips

Status: Out
Type of injury: Fractured cheekbone
Possible return date: Unknown

During his superb outing against AC Milan earlier this week, Phillips suffered a fracture to his cheekbone. At his press conference on Friday, Klopp suggested that the defender will be absent until the middle of January.

Harvey Elliott

Status: Out
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: Unknown

Elliott continues to make progress in his recovery from a serious ankle injury and is on course to return before the end of the campaign.

Roberto Firmino

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: December 16 (vs. Newcastle United)

Firmino is still recovering from his latest hamstring problem, and this game will come too soon for the Brazilian attacker. On his latest update, Klopp suggested that the middle of December is a realistic target.

Curtis Jones

Status: Out
Type of injury: Eye
Possible return date: Unknown

Liverpool are being extremely cautious with Jones's eye injury, and it could still be some weeks before the midfielder returns to the pitch.

LIVERPOOL'S SUSPENSION LIST

Liverpool have no players who are serving a suspension for this game.
