A single goal from Luciano Becchio sees Leeds United overcome recently-relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers at Elland Road.

Wolverhampton Wanderers' first Championship game since May 2009 has ended in defeat.

A first-half strike from Luciano Becchio was enough to give Leeds United a deserved victory over Stale Solbakken's men at Elland Road.

The Argentine forward stylishly headed home Ross McCormack's whipped cross from six yards after 17 minutes.

Luke Varney almost doubled the hosts' lead on the hour mark, but the former Portsmouth man's goal-bound effort was well blocked by Richard Stearman.

Matt Jarvis, who was the only stand-out performer for Wolves, went close with an ambitious volley in the dying seconds.
