Coronavirus: Championship sides 'threaten legal challenge if season is scrapped'

The top six sides in the Championship reportedly hold a meeting to discuss possible legal action against the Premier League if the 2019-20 season is declared void.

A number of Championship sides are threatening to launch a legal challenge against the Premier League if the current season is scrapped, according to reports.

It has been suggested that the second tier's top-six hope to protect their three promotion spots by threatening the Premier League with a legal challenge if the 2019-20 season is declared void.

According to The Times, the current top six held a secret meeting on Monday to discuss their viewpoints.

Football has been suspended until April 3 at the earliest due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Some have suggested that if the season was declared void then Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion, who currently occupy the automatic promotion spots, should go up.

However, the two promotion leaders are only seven and six points ahead of Fulham in third, while there are still 27 points to play for this season.
