Mick McCarthy: "We still have some work to do"

Mick McCarthy insists that Ipswich's Championship playoff place is not yet secure despite their 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest giving them a three-point cushion.

Mick McCarthy was quick to stress that Ipswich Town's playoff place is not yet secure despite their 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest this afternoon.

Strikers Daryl Murphy and Freddie Sears scored either side of a Christophe Berra own goal at Portman Road to take the Tractor Boys up to fifth in the table.

However, Saturday's other results mean that Brentford and, less realistically, Wolverhampton Wanderers can still catch them on the final day of the Championship season.

Ipswich, who have won three out of their last four matches, visit Blackburn Rovers next weekend with a three-point lead over Brentford and Wolves and a one-point advantage over Derby County in sixth.

"You would have thought that 78 points would have been enough, but everyone involved in the promotion race has been excellent," McCarthy is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"We have given ourselves a great chance to be involved in the playoffs, but we still have some work to do."

The Suffolk outfit, who last played in the Premier League in the 2001-02 season, have a superior goal difference (+19) to that of Brentford (+16) and Wolves (+12).
