Martin Jol: 'Patjim Kasami's goal better than Marco van Basten's'

Martin Jol says Patjim Kasami's strike against Crystal Palace was better than Marco van Basten's legendary goal against the USSR in 1988.

Fulham manager Martin Jol has said that Patjim Kasami's goal in Monday night's 4-1 win against Crystal Palace was better than Marco van Basten's famous volley against the USSR in the 1988 European Championship final.

Van Basten's strike is one of the most famous goals of the past 25 years, but Jol feels that Kasami's effort was even better than the Dutchman's angled volley.

"Kasami's is a better goal than people feel, you can't compare that with Van Basten's, no. This was better!" Jol told Sky Sports News after the game.

He later added in the post-match press conference: "You can talk about volleys and drop-kicks and that is probably difficult - but it looks a bit easier. This was a 30-40 yard sprint, because he plays on the left, he turned up on the right in the box, he controlled it and he had a shot.

"I don't think he will ever score a goal like that again. But I think it will be at least one of the best goals this season."

Meanwhile, the defeat reportedly leaves Palace boss Ian Holloway on the verge of the sack at Selhurst Park.
