Late goals from Apostolos Vellios and Royston Drenthe help Everton claim all three points against Wigan Athletic.

Late goals from Everton substitutes Apostolos Vellios and Royston Drenthe handed the Toffees all three points against Wigan Athletic this afternoon.

Visiting Wigan took the lead on the half-hour mark through Franco di Santo, but the home side were back level just two minutes later through England defender Phil Jagielka.

The game looked to be heading for a draw until Vellios headed in Tony Hibbert's cross with just five minutes remaining.

Drenthe rounded off the result deep into stoppage time when he slotted in from close range.

Everton travel to Manchester City next Saturday, while Roberto Martinez's Wigan host Tottenham Hotspur on the same day.
