Chelsea finished the season in sixth position despite a 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers on Sunday.

It was Blackburn who had the first real chance of the match after five minutes courtesy of a strike from Jason Lowe, but Ross Turnbull cleared the danger.

Chelsea advanced immediately down the other end, however, but Daniel Sturridge's effort cleared the bar when he might have done better.

Romelu Lukaku was next to come close for the home side with a header after 10 minutes, but it just drifted wide of the post.

Blackburn were not without their chances, however, and Morten Gamst Pedersen fired a free kick wide after 16 minutes.

Sturridge again came close with an effort after 22 minutes, but Jake Kean collected the ball with relative ease, before the striker headed wide moments later.

Raul Meireles was next to come close with an effort just before the 30-minute mark, but Kean was on hand to make the save.

Chelsea did take the lead, however, after 31 minutes when John Terry headed home a corner, and it was quickly two when Meireles struck from close range after 34 minutes.

It remained that way until the interval, with Chelsea entering the break with a comfortable lead.

It was Blackburn who started the second period the better and Josh Morris brought a fine save out of Turnbull with 50 minutes on the clock, before Junior Hoilett came close with an effort.

Michael Essien came close with an effort for Chelsea after 54 minutes, but it was Blackburn who cut the score to 2-1 after 60 minutes when Yakubu headed a Scott Dann cross into the net.

Chances remained few and far between in the latter stages of the match, with Didier Drogba passing up an opportunity on the 70-minute mark.

Fernando Torres had an effort of his own moments later, but it cleared the bar when he might have done better.

Chances remained few and far between in the latter stages, as the home side held on for all three points.
