Steve Kean hopes past experience will help

Blackburn manager Steve Kean insists that he is the right man to steer the club back into the Premier League.

Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean has reiterated his belief that he is the right man to steer the club back into the Premier League.

Blackburn's relegation into the Championship was confirmed on Monday following a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Wigan, during which there was another protest against Kean and the club's owners.

However, the Scot believes that his past experience with the Championship-winning Fulham side of 2000-01, coupled with the experience his players have picked up this season, will stand his side in good stead.

"I said to the lads - the ones that are still in the building - this is not the biggest squad but it is the youngest in the league. I think they can take from this bags of experience. The younger lads that have come in - Jason Lowe, Grant Hanley, Adam Henley - together with the senior ones that are left, gave it a really good go," said Kean.

"Last season we took it to the last game. This year we had two games to go. We thought we could do it but it slipped through our fingers. A number of years ago I was involved with the Fulham staff that managed to win the Championship.

"When I look back on that and reflect on it, and how strong the squad was - we won the first 13 games. It is about the depth and the quality of the squad and that is what we will attempt to do immediately."

Kean has been in charge at Ewood Park since December 2010, with a win percentage of just 26.15% in that time.
