Former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is reportedly open to being appointed as Tottenham Hotspur head coach if Antonio Conte opts against penning a new contract.

Thomas Tuchel is reportedly open to becoming the new head coach of Tottenham Hotspur if Antonio Conte decides against penning a new contract.

Tuchel has been out of work since the start of September when he was surprisingly sacked by the new Chelsea owners after working with them during the summer transfer window.

Since then, the German has been linked with a number of positions without showing any particular interest or getting close to a return to the dugout.

However, courtesy of his Champions League triumph with the Blues in 2021, the 49-year-old will naturally become an option for the biggest clubs in Europe should a position arise.

According to the Evening Standard, that has led to Tuchel monitoring any developments at Spurs.

Conte is the current incumbent at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and it recently appeared more likely than not that the Italian would pen a new contract.

That was until Spurs endured a drop off in form in the Premier League, the North London outfit losing six of their most recent 12 fixtures in the top flight.

As a result, Spurs now sit five points adrift of the top four ahead of a showdown with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday night.

Although Spurs have the option to extend Conte's contract by a further 12 months, they are unlikely to take that approach without the blessing of the 53-year-old.

A report earlier this week suggested that the former Italy and Inter Milan boss was 'leaning' towards an exit at the end of the season.

Spurs are allegedly open to appointing Tuchel as a replacement should they require one, despite Tuchel's previous allegiances with one of the fierce rivals.

Tuchel has also made no secret in the past of his enjoyment from living in London, another factor which will likely come into consideration if presented with an opportunity to return to the Premier League.

During his stay at Stamford Bridge between January 2021 and September 2022, Tuchel recorded 60 wins and just 16 defeats in 100 games, with five victories and one draw coming from six fixtures against Spurs.
