Manchester City playmaker David Silva has predicted that Fernando Torres will rediscover the form that persuaded Chelsea to pay £50m for him.

The striker has struggled to adapt since his move from Liverpool in Janaury 2011, but fellow Spain international Silva thinks Torres will prove his worth in the forthcoming season.

"He was brought in to be a fantastic striker and hopefully he will be able to fit in and show the qualities that he has," said Silva.

"I was very happy with him at the end of last season. There are great expectations on the team and he is part of it. He was brought in to be a fantastic striker and hopefully he will be able to fit in and show the qualities that he has."

Silva thinks that another Spaniard, Juan Mata, will be key to Torres's output.

"Juan Mata will be a good partner for him and will be important in helping him to settle on the pitch, and those two players can generate many chances for Fernando. Chelsea have moved well in the transfer market, although that does not guarantee success," he added.

Chelsea begin their new Premier League campaign at Wigan Athletic on August 18.
