Mendieta: 'Mata will help Torres back to his best'

Former Valencia captain Gaizka Mendieta expects Juan Mata to help Fernando Torres rediscover his form at Stamford Bridge.

Former Valencia midfielder Gaizka Mendieta has said that he expects winger Juan Mata to help Fernando Torres rediscover his form.

Mendieta insists that Mata, who arrived at Stamford Bridge earlier this week after completing his £23.5m move from the Mestalla, is capable of bringing the best out of the Spanish striker.

"I am sure that Mata will help Fernando get back to his best form," Mendieta told Goal.com. "It has not been easy for him at Chelsea since he left Liverpool and the goals have not flowed.

"He will have a good idea of how Mata plays because they have played with each other for the senior national side so they should gel quickly. I am sure they will hit it off on and off the field and that can only be good for Chelsea."

Mata and Torres were both part of Vicente del Bosque's Spanish national side who won the 2010 World Cup, while Mata also starred in this summer's Under-21 European Championship winning team.
