Eden Hazard should have given the home side the lead in the fourth minute of the match when he was played through by Samuel Eto'o and rounded Hugo Lloris, but with the goal gaping, he fired wide of the post.

Nabil Bentaleb had the first opening of the game for the visitors when he received Emmanuel Adebayor's pass before driving into the box and poking an effort wide of the far post.

Spurs came close again soon after when Sandro latched onto a clearance just outside the box, before firing in a volley that had to be pushed wide by Petr Cech.

Chelsea then threatened when Nemanja Matic headed Frank Lampard's free kick behind at the back post, before Eto'o made some room for himself in the box and lashed a strike wide.
