Danny Murphy has claimed that his former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard would not join Celtic because Brendan Rodgers is in charge of the club.
The midfielder has been linked with the Scottish giants after announcing his departure from MLS outfit Los Angeles Galaxy.
It is unclear whether Gerrard will prolong his playing career or go into coaching, but Murphy has suggested that the 36-year-old would not want to play under Rodgers after the Northern Irishman signalled the end of the player's Liverpool career.
Gerrard, who spent 17 years of his senior career at Anfield, wanted to continue playing for his boyhood club, but a deal was never agreed and the midfielder left for the United States in 2015.
"It's not going to happen, not with Brendan in charge," Murphy told talkSPORT. "It didn't end very well for Stevie at Liverpool. He wanted to stay, he wanted a two-year deal, and it wasn't forthcoming for lots of reasons. I don't think that is going to happen."
Meanwhile, reports have claimed that Gerrard has held talks with MK Dons about potentially becoming the League One club's new manager.
