Erik Sviatchenko: 'Opponents should be frightened of Celtic'

Celtic defender Erik Sviatchenko wants supporters to create another 'frightening' atmosphere to greet Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Erik Sviatchenko has claimed that opposition teams will be running scared at the prospect of facing Celtic in front of the club's vocal supporters.

The Hoops welcome Borussia Monchengladbach to Celtic Park on Wednesday evening, aiming to match the performance levels of last month when holding an in-form Manchester City side to a 3-3 draw.

Danish defender Sviatchenko insists that Gladbach, who are bottom of Group C without a point from their first two games, could struggle to perform in Glasgow in much the same way as City's superstars.

"Players come here, teams come here - they need to be frightened," he is quoted as saying by BBC Sport. "We'll do our best to create that intensity towards the game tomorrow.

"To draw a parallel to the City game, you could see that they were struggling even though they were really, really big stars. [Monchengladbach] are a really good team, they have caused Barcelona problems.

"It's a team that have been really good the last couple of years in Germany and have done really well last year in this tournament."

Celtic have dropped points just once in their opening eight Scottish Premiership fixtures, leaving them four points clear of Aberdeen with a game in hand still to play.
