Preview: Boavista vs. Casa Pia - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Monday's Primeira Liga clash between Boavista and Casa Pia, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Boavista will face fellow European qualification candidates Casa Pia in the latest round of Primeira Liga matches.

Petit's side trail their impending visitors to the Estadio do Bessa on Monday evening by five points, while The Geese sit in the final Europa Conference League qualification position.

Boavista are seeking their first participation on the shores of European football since suffering a 2-1 aggregate defeat in the semi-finals of the 2002-03 UEFA Cup campaign at the hands of Scottish Premiership outfit Celtic.

Petit's side have registered five victories from 10 matches in front of their supporters, scoring the same number of goals as they have conceded at the opposite end of the field.

Situating in 10th position in the Primeira Liga standings, Panteras are undefeated across their previous three home league matches dating back to a 4-1 defeat at Porto on November 12.

Petit's side shared the spoils with Santa Clara at the Estadio de Sao Miguel on February 4 before succumbing to a 2-1 defeat against Estoril Praia on Thursday evening after playing the entirety of the second half with 10 men following Ibrahima Camara's straight red card with four minutes left of regular time within the opening 45 minutes.

Pursuing their maiden participation in a UEFA-organised competition in the club's 103-year history, Casa Pia have been one of the surprise packages across the first half of the 2022-23 league campaign.

Gracing the Primeira Liga for the first time in 83 years, Filipe Martins's side possess the fourth-best away record across the pinnacle tier of Portuguese league football after accumulating an impressive tally of 16 points from the 27 on offer.

Despite only one victory in their last five league matches, The Geese have been a force to be reckoned with away from the familiar settings of the Estadio Pina Manique, with only the first three sides in the Primeira Liga possessing a better point-per-game ratio.

Casa Pia have, however, only found the back of the net on 10 occasions on their travels across the current top-flight campaign.

The capital-based outfit were victorious over relegation-threatened Santa Clara at the end of last month, courtesy of Vila Nova loanee Clayton's strike deep in second-half injury time. However, Martins's side were then helpless to prevent current league leaders Benfica from recording a 3-0 victory at the Estadio da Luz a week later.

Turning their attention to the quarter-final stage of the Taca de Portugal, Casa Pia were surprisingly knocked out by Nacional after the Liga Portugal 2 outfit scored a hat-trick of unanswered goals in extra time following a 2-2 draw in normal time. To make matters worse, the visitors will now be without Joao Nunes and Vasco Fernandes following the defensive duo's respective dismissals to further compound a disappointing Thursday night.

Undefeated across their historical head-to-head encounters, Casa Pia will be confident of extending that one-sided record at the Estadio do Bessa.

Team News

Following his dismissal against Estoril Praia, Guinean international Ibrahima Camara will miss Boavista's match against Casa Pia at the Estadio do Bessa. In the midfielder's absence, Santos loanee Robson Reis could come into the hosts' starting XI.

After his winning goal on Thursday evening, Yusupha Njie will again start the contest as Panteras' lone striker in a familiar-looking 4-2-3-1 formation.

On the back of their unforeseen Taca de Portugal elimination, Casa Pia manager Filipe Martins could consider changing his side on their return to Primera Liga action.

After being given most of the night off in midweek, Takahiro Kunimoto and Saviour Godwin could be handed respective recalls to the visitors' starting team sheet.

Two players that Martins will not be able to call upon are defenders Joao Nunes and Vasco Fernandes after the pair's lack of discipline on Thursday. Without the aforementioned pair, Fernando Varela and Leo Bolgado are expected to fill the defensive gaps alongside Derick Poloni in The Geese's back three.

Boavista possible starting lineup:
Batista; Bolgado, Varela, Poloni; Kunimoto, Soares, Neto, Zolotic; Godwin, Soma, Clayton

Casa Pia possible starting lineup:
Bracali; Malheiro, Sasso, Abascal, Mangas; Vukotic, Reis; Lourenco, Makouta, Agra; Njie
