Cagliari advance in Coppa Italia

Goals from Marco Sau and Diego Farias see Cagliari advance to the fourth round of the Coppa Italia at the expense of Catania.

Two first-half goals saw Cagliari secure their spot in the fourth round of the Coppa Italia at the expense of Catania this evening.

It took the home side just five minutes to break the deadlock at the Stadio Sant'Elia when one-capped Italy international Marco Sau created enough space for himself to find the back of the net.

The lead was then doubled in the 18th minute by loanee striker Diego Farias, who converted his opening from inside the penalty area.

There were fewer opportunities during the second half, with the main talking point being the red card that was handed to Catania's holding midfielder Fabian Rinaudo for a late challenge.
