Real Betis, Levante in dramatic goalless draw

Ten-man Real Betis miss a penalty and have a goal controversially disallowed as they draw 0-0 with Levante in La Liga.

Real Betis and Levante have somehow drawn 0-0 this evening in a dramatic La Liga encounter.

The hosts were awarded a penalty, had a goal controversially disallowed and were reduced to 10 men after just 30 minutes.

After an even opening period with few chances, it was Betis who came closest in the first half, when Chuli controlled a long pass and curled the ball straight into the arms of the goalkeeper.

The hosts were then reduced to 10 men as Javier Chica received two yellow cards within 30 minutes.

Despite that, though, Betis could have taken the lead when Jorge Molina raced clear and slotted the ball home. The assistant referee's flag denied them the lead, although replays showed that the decision might have been a wrong one.

Betis continued to force the issue in the second half, despite being a man down, and could have gone ahead once more when Chuli controlled a deep cross, before firing wide from a tight angle.

Then, with 20 minutes to go, Betis were awarded a penalty for a foul by goalkeeper Keylor Navas, seconds after the ball was cleared off the line from a Levante corner.

Navas thought that he had redeemed himself, pushing the penalty wide, only for the referee to decide it should be taken again. This time Molina went low, but was again denied by Navas.

Levante had a couple of late breaks but it will be Betis wondering how they have not won this game, despite being down to 10 men for over an hour.
