Preview: Barrow vs. Salford City - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's League Two clash between Barrow and Salford City, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Salford City will travel to Barrow for a League Two encounter on Wednesday with the visitors looking to bounce back after their six-game unbeaten run was ended on Sunday following a 2-0 defeat in the FA Cup.

Meanwhile, the hosts are winless in their last five outings, leaving them four points clear of the relegation zone in 20th place.

Barrow may be winless in their previous five fixtures, but they can take encouragement from a goalless draw away to Ipswich Town which earned them a replay in the FA Cup.

Wednesday's hosts will be hoping that the draw can act as a springboard, with Barrow aiming to end a nine-game winless league run.

Although, Mark Cooper may be content with a point on Wednesday as his side enter the midweek fixture off the back of three consecutive league defeats.

The concern for the Barrow boss will be his side's shyness in front of goal, having witnessed his team fail to score in their last five games in all competitions.

Three points on Wednesday would represent their first home win in League Two since a 2-1 victory over Newport County on September 24.

Salford's impressive run of results came to a halt at the weekend when they suffered a 2-0 loss against Chesterfield - a defeat that saw their FA Cup journey come to an end.

The Ammies will now turn their attention back to league matters, and on Wednesday they will look to extend their unbeaten league run to five matches.

Their impressive form has seen Salford climb up to 11th place, but that run will need to continue if they are to close the six-point gap to the playoffs.

If they are to clinch a place in the top six, Gary Bowyer's side need to improve on their travels after winning just twice away from home in League Two this term.

Although, four points from their last two away trips suggests that they are heading in the right direction, and a win on Wednesday would give them consecutive away victories for the first time this season.

Team News

Barrow saw Patrick Brough return from suspension to start the weekend encounter against Ipswich, and he is expected to keep his place in the side.

Connor Brown also returned to the lineup on Saturday, while Tom Beadling made his first matchday squad of the season after recovering from injury.

Cooper will be hoping that the front two of Josh Kay and Josh Gordon can end their five-game goal drought.

Salford are still expected to be without the services of Ian Henderson, D'Mani Mellor and Corrie Ndaba, who are all absent through injury.

Ashley Hunter is also unavailable, with the 26-year-old set to serve the final game of his three-match suspension.

After starting the last two fixtures, Tom Elliott is expected to lead the line for the hosts on Wednesday.

Barrow possible starting lineup:
Farman; Jones, Ellis, Grayson; Brown, Banks, White, Gotts, Brough; Gordon, Kay

Salford City possible starting lineup:
King; Shephard, Eastham, Turnbull, Touray; Love, Lowe, Lund; Brandon, Morris, Elliott

We say: Barrow 0-2 Salford City

Salford prevailed in the two meetings between the sides last season, and we think with Barrow struggling of late that the visitors will collect all three points on Wednesday.
