Atletico Madrid held at Getafe

Atletico Madrid fail to close the gap on second-placed Real Madrid in the La Liga table with a goalless draw at Getafe.

Atletico Madrid have missed the chance to close the gap on second-placed Real Madrid in the La Liga table with a 0-0 draw at Getafe.

The best opportunity of a quiet first half came for the visitors on 16 minutes when Diego Castro's effort was snuffed out by Diego Godin.

As Atletico struggled in front of goal, Getafe nearly made the breakthrough early in the second half, but Abdelaziz Barrada's low strike was kept out by Thibaut Courtois.

The visitors ended the match with nine men after Mario Suarez and Godin were both dismissed following two bookable offences.

However, they were able to hold on as both sides settled for a share of the spoils.
