Paul Lambert: 'Ron Vlaar loving Aston Villa life'

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert plays down reports that his sought-after captain Ron Vlaar will not be at the club when the transfer window closes.

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has revealed that captain Ron Vlaar has no intention of leaving the club this summer, claiming that the defender "loves" life at Villa Park.

Vlaar has seen his stock rise in recent months after producing a number of eye-catching defensive performances for the Netherlands at this summer's World Cup.

The 29-year-old has reportedly attracted interest from Juventus lately but, after speaking with the player himself, Lambert is confident of retaining his skipper beyond the summer.

"I had a really brief conversation with Ron. No doubt I will sit with him when we have a bit more time when we're back," he told Villa's official website.

"He's positive and raring to go. He's looking forward to getting going. That, it itself, is a plus. He loves it here. That's him back now. He's looking forward to the Stoke game [on the first day of the season]."

Vlaar has one year remaining on his contract with the Villa Park club.
