Joleon Lescott: 'Aston Villa survival would be greatest achievement'

Aston Villa defender Joleon Lescott believes that keeping the club in the Premier League would eclipse his two title wins as a Manchester City player.

Joleon Lescott has revealed that keeping Aston Villa in the Premier League would be a bigger achievement in his career than his two Premier League title wins.

The 33-year-old joined the club in the summer from West Bromwich Albion, but he had lost his place in the starting lineup under Remi Garde until he returned to action in his side's 1-1 draw against Southampton.

Lescott has admitted that he consider helping Villa retain their Premier League status a greater feat than lifting the Premier League crown with Manchester City.

"It's a massive challenge for me," he told Sky Sports News. "If we do achieve the goal it would be up there with the biggest achievements in my career. Winning titles is great but this means a lot because I am closer to this club than I have been to many others.

"A lot is made of the 40-point mark and, as much as we would like to get there, our main goal is to get to 17th. We don't care how many points we are on, as long as we are out of the bottom three at the end of the season."

Villa face Arsenal in their next Premier League outing on Sunday.
