Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert is keen to see his side finish their Premier League campaign on a positive note.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has revealed that he feels proud of his team for avoiding relegation to the Championship.

Villa's Premier League status was confirmed for another season when Wigan lost to Arsenal in midweek, but Lambert has insisted that his team are keen to finish as high up in the table as they can.

The 43-year-old told the Birmingham Mail: "We still have a game to go. It's not finished. It's a game we will try to win.

"We will take 4,000 fans up there. We had 42,000 at Villa Park at 12.45pm on a Saturday. That was phenomenal. This football club has a real special crowd behind it. I think they see that with the team

"If we win on Sunday, which we will try and do, and results go our way, we could end up in 11th. That just shows how tight the league has always been. I am proud of the team for what they have done. They have been excellent for us."

Villa have won five out of their last nine Premier League games to avoid relegation.
